Niky's Dominican Beauty Salon in West Orange, NJ

This place is longer YuberkisI've been here once. I paid $40 for a blow out and $10 for a trim. My hair is currently cut at shoulder length. The woman who did my hair did a good job. It's a Dominican salon. I have the same expectations at every Dominican salon I go to. This salon was no different. My hair was blown straight as requested. So essentially I paid more than usual for the same results. There was a serious lack of professionalism at this establishment. The owner blasted the Latin music making it hard to converse or take a phone call without raising your voice. She also had a client whom I'm certain was a regular who had a birthday on the particular day I was getting my hair done. The owner/manager popped open wine to give to all of the employees and the only two other clients in the salon. I just don't think it's professional to encourage your employees to drink wine while doing hair ESP when operating hot flat irons.

Stopped in one Sunday to get the Dominican blowout...amazing. My hair came out great...very sliky, smooth, and straight...hair felt like I had a relaxer. Will definitely return, plus you have the option to get their deep steam conditioner, which is great for the hair.

I absolutely love this place! The only reason I give it 4 stars is because of the price! This place is expensive but the quality of work is great! I go to Winfrey and she is great at slaying your hair! I'm natural and perm free for years and she makes my hair so silky straight. I don't go often because excessive heat will change your curl pattern, but when I do this is the only place I go to. The ladies can be rude from time to time but if the manager/owner is there they seem to be more friendly! The place is small and the owner is very hands on to make your experience worthwhile! Winfrey is the best by far and I only let her do my hair!!

BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!! I visited this salon for the first time for a simple co-wash and blow. I am natural (perm free Or should I say WAS) and I requested to have my hair only washed in conditioner since I had already shampoo wash the days prior. I was informed of this honey base steamed treatment that they use for natural hair and was explained the benefits by Arnoldo who I believe owns or manages the salon. I originally objected but then was told it was really great so I obliged. The treatment was applied to the perimeter of my hair which I found to be weird because most hair professionals know that the most fragile part of the hair are the ends but still I gave the benefit of the doubt. I left the salon paying more than usual but that wasn't an issue and with my hair blown out. I went to a party the next night and I just knew my hair would be puffy after but only my ends became puffy and my roots still straight... STRANGE because that never happens. As the days passed I became very worried and suspicious because I was having an excessive amount of SHEDDING and BREAKAGE which I never had before. This prompted me to wash my hair and sure enough ALL around the perimeter of my hair was BONE STRAIGHT!!!!! My hair was curly in some places straight in others a single strand was curly then straight then slightly curled at the ends and my usual supple and bouncy curls has lost all of its "boing" and elasticity. All I could do was cry. I could even smell the chemical as I washed my hair and all throughout the night and next day I could smell that smell. I AM CERTAIN THAT A CHEMICAL EVEN A PERM HAS BEEN PLACED IN MY HAIR!!!!! I even went to my usual stylist and once she saw my hair she stepped back and covered her face and said my hair was definitely permed. I WILL HAVE TO BIG CHOP MY HAIR AND START ALL OVER AGAIN JUST BECAUSE OF A SALONS NEGLIGENCE AND INCOMPETENCE AND BECAUSE ONCE AGAIN A PERSON FELT MY HAIR WOULD BE BETTER OR MORE MANAGEABLE STRAIGHT. NEVER WILL I EVER AGAIN GO TO ANOTHER SALONTHAT DOES NOT EMBRACE OR APPRECIATE NATURAL KINKY HAIR. AND IF YOU LOVE AND EMBRACE YOUR NATURAL YOU SHOULD NOT ENTRUST THIS SALON WITH YOUR BEAUTIFUL LOCS BECAUSE I DID AND NOW I HAVE IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE....
